West Ham United’s Declan Rice posts photo finish alongside Mason Mount

We imagine it’s quite nice playing alongside your best mate for England.

Indeed, it’s one thing turning up on a cold Sunday morning to kick around with the friends you were out with the night before, but it’s a completely different kettle of fish to represent your country with them, and what a joy that must be.

Both Mason Mount and Declan Rice are currently living this dream. The pair became friends after they first met at Chelsea’s academy 12 years ago and have seemingly become inseparable, despite the not-so-small hump of Rice being released by the club when he was 14.

Naturally, over the years, a degree of competition has developed between the two, and we saw just a glimpse of that during a Three Lions training session, when Rice posted a snapshot photo to his Instagram of him finishing ahead of Mount in a foot race.

That’s right – the 6 ft 1 defensive midfielder beat the agile playmaker. We’re as surprised as you are.

England’s upcoming tie against the Czech Republic will be the friends’ second international outing together after Mount was gifted his first senior debut during the 4-0 victory over Bulgaria last month.
