The Hammers could be forced to sell key defender Winston Reid in January, as the New Zealand skipper continues to refuse extending his contract past the end of the current season, and the 22 year-old was previously billed as a potential replacement. Some sources had mooted a £4million deal in January.
Burn measures in at a whopping 6 foot 7 and has excelled in the Championship this season despite the Cottagers struggling at the less flattering end of the table.
Sam Allardyce was relatively coy on the topic of a move for the former Darlington youngster during his weekly press conference, but Symons, in comparison, has made his feelings abundantly clear.
“We’ve got an excellent group of young players and I want to take them forward with Fulham,” the Craven Cottage boss told reporters.
“I want to keep Dan. He’s a big part of how we play and he’s been excellent since he’s come in – he’s one of our leaders. “We’re under no pressure to sell anyone. It’s never once been mentioned and I don’t think it will be.”
Unless Reid’s contract situation changes between now and the New Year, the Hammers will be forced to consider other alternatives.
