Things had been going so smoothly up until the hour mark of West Ham United's Monday night match against Arsenal.

Angelo Ogbonna had scored a header to put the Hammers ahead, while Arsenal's pedestrian passing was causing the defence very few problems.

Then came the following ten minutes and the complete capitulation that it came to be defined by, with Gabriel Martinelli, Nicolas Pepe and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang all scoring.

Everyone seemed to watch on helplessly as the goals went in and the three points went further away from their reach.

One man who could do literally nothing to help was Issa Diop, as he was sat on the bench.

The Frenchman, who is rated at £31.5m on Transfermarkt, was missing for the victory against Chelsea due to suspension and then didn't even make the bench against Wolverhampton Wanderers for tactical reasons.

With pressure mounting on Manuel Pellegrini, it is pretty telling that he didn't trust Diop enough to use the 22-year-old against Arsenal.

In the league, Diop has averaged 1.7 interceptions, 1.3 tackles and 3.6 clearances per Premier League game.

Did he really play for us?! No West Ham fan has managed to name all of these obscure Irons signings....

However, he has also given away a penalty, and looked suspect when being pulled out into wide areas, with an example showing this coming against Manchester United, when he ended up wiping out Dan James.

He also looked far from convincing in his most recent game, against Tottenham Hotspur, as he was easily done by Heung-min Son for their opener and was then beaten in the air by Harry Kane with little resistance for their third.

Having now been left out twice in a row by choice, it seems as though Diop has a way to go in order to get himself back in the team.

In other news, Pellegrini looked like a man close to the edge following the loss against Arsenal.
