What if they’d never joined West Ham?

Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano‘What if’ is something every football fan asks themselves on a season-by-season basis. However, sometimes without the transfers and the professional judgements of the manager (however unpopular at the time), many clubs could have actually fallen much further from grace.

With these instants in mind the guys at Football Manager have gone through more than a decade’s worth of statistics and, in celebration of FM14 – the 10th edition of the world’s most realistic football simulator, they have now solved some of the greatest ‘what if’ situations in football history.

In 2006, Alan Pardew controversially signed Carlos Tevez and  Javier Mascherano for West Ham. But what would have happened if he hadn’t?

Well FM14 reckon that not signing these two players would have led to the Hammers being relegated with 41 points, ending up in 18th position. Dean Ashton and Carlton Cole managed to score 36 goals between them that season, but it’s not enough to keep West Ham out of the relegation zone. Gaining the title of worst defence in the Premier League, having conceded 63 goals, ultimately sends them down into the Championship.

Thank God for Pards eh?
