Xande Silva has returned to U23s action with a bang, having scored and assisted in a 4-2 victory against Sunderland after coming off the bench.

His strike came courtesy of a wonderful curling effort from long range, while he produced a nice flick and fizzed in a low cross to assist the final goal of the game.

Considering he had not played a single game all season prior to that, due to the amount of time it took to recover from a bowel obstruction, fans were lauding him for having such a big impact on the game.

There will have been many around the club who were absolutely thrilled for him, but if there was one man who may have some sort of concern in the back of his mind, it would be Albian Ajeti.

The former FC Basel frontman has been hugely underwhelming during his time at London Stadium, as he is still waiting for his first goal in a West Ham shirt despite making three starts in the cups and eight substitute appearances in the league.

To make this even worse, in the Premier League, he averages 1.42 total shots per 90 minutes, but averages none on target, while he has an xG of 0.1.

It is perhaps most concerning that he failed to score in the cups, despite getting the full 90 minutes against Newport County, Gillingham and West Bromwich Albion.

With that in mind, if Silva is able to pick up some form, then there is surely a chance that he will be able to usurp his fellow 22-year-old and get himself on the bench.

Before falling ill, the Portuguese forward managed to make two first-team appearances - coming on against Burnley in the league, before starting a 2-0 FA Cup win against Birmingham City.

Ajeti must surely have a slight concern that when Silva is back in full swing, there is a chance that he could usurp the Switzerland international to get some more game time for himself.

Meanwhile, West Ham's revealed transfer move will have done GSB no favours.
