On Saturday we should expect another intense clash between Man United and Liverpool, with both teams desperate to get a win under their belts after indifferent starts.
Although this game has always brought goals and bold defensive displays, the centre of the battle in this game will come from the midfield.
The contest will be a test for the midfielders, with both teams signing new central midfield players in the summer. Manchester United’s £24million signing of Morgan Schneiderlin seems to be paying back already after taking off from where he left off at Southampton.
But if the French player wants to really show his worth he will have to perform in the big games, whereas Liverpool’s new signing, James Milner, has had a more average start to the season.
Schneiderlin, 25, has been impressive by winning the ball then dispatching it efficiently, with 3.3 interceptions per game game compared to Milner’s 0.5. Although statistically not as good in terms of passing, Milner is a more attack-minded player than Schneiderlin and has created more chances per game at an average 1.8.
However if the result of the game is influenced by possession, Schneiderlin and Manchester United will surely have the upper hand.
Whatever the score turns out to be, the only certainty is that it will be a fierce encounter and the new signings could be the players to win it for their respective sides…
