Crystal Palace have endured a woeful 2016 and things have taken a turn for the worse, with the news that striker Connor Wickham requires surgery on a knee injury.
The 23-year-old is due to have an operation on an anterior cruciate ligament injury , sustained in the weekend’s dramatic 5-4 defeat to Swansea City, and the striker’s length of absence will only be confirmed once the rehabilitation process has begun.
With Palace only out of the relegation zone on goal difference and facing a crucial next five games against Southampton, Hull, Manchester United, Chelsea and Watford, the loss of the young striker could have a telling effect on the course of the season.
Naturally, the striker was devastated with his injury but has vowed to fight back and help Palace in their battle to avoid the drop.
I can't describe how devastated I am, but I will do all I can to be back on the pitch as soon as possible and stronger than before! ???????? pic.twitter.com/kP0n6DBQsA
