Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has been under scrutiny in recent weeks as the Gunners have been advised by many a pundit to invest in a genuinely world class keeper. So, imagine the Polish stopper’s delight when he managed to keep a clean sheet in Arsenal’s win over arch rivals Tottenham.
When the fixture list came out, no one could have predicted the irony of the timing the game would be played. Sunday 1st September- just one day before the transfer window shut. A transfer window in which Spurs invested heavily with their fortune received from Real Madrid from the sale of star player Gareth Bale. Their purchases have been nothing less than impressive on paper. Simultaneously, Arsene Wenger had continued his reputation for refusing to spend big with a sole free transfer from France as the only player through the door at the Emirates stadium.
The match was billed as a David and Goliath affair, one club in turmoil, the other looking stronger than ever. But, it was Wenger’s men who had the last laugh silencing overzealous Tottenham fans who were convinced they would challenge for the title this season. Evidence shows they have further to go than what they think. With the last minute signing of Mesut Ozil, one could argue Arsenal are the only club of the two to bring in a proven world class name.
Szczesny has clearly carefully chosen the tune he plays on his piano to mock Tottenham, just have a listen Spurs fans……
