One winner and one loser if Wolves sign Daniel Podence

According to the Daily Mail, Daniel Podence was expected to undergo a medical at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday ahead of his £19m move from Olympiacos to the Premier League.

And on the premise that he will eventually end up joining Nuno Espirito Santo’s team, FFC have analysed the potential winners and losers from the deal…

Winner: Nuno Espirito Santo

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that, with the signing of a prolific winger who can boost the squad immediately, Nuno will be the ultimate winner from this deal. With the second part of the season just around the corner, and with it the return of the competitive Europa League, Wolves will need all hands on deck to finish the campaign strong.

Podence has already scored five goals and assisted a further five across all competitions in 2019/20 and has European experience having played in the Champions League. There is no doubt Podence can give Nuno’s squad that extra edge in attack they might need.

Not to mention that he’s also quite versatile as Transfermarkt state he’s been played on both wings this season.

From the looks of it, he’s just the man Wolves need to give them some well needed depth in the forward line.

Loser: Diogo Jota

Jota was a huge part of Wolves’ 2018/19 campaign – banging in nine Premier League goals and adding seven assists to his tally – but he’s failed to emulate that form in the current campaign. Despite scoring nine goals in all competitions this season, he hasn’t started any of Wolves’ last four Premier League games, being left out of the squad in two of those as well.

This, in turn, has given Pedro Neto a chance to shine and the 19-year-old has taken it with both hands, starting the last five Premier Leauge games and even scoring two goals in that period. With the possible arrival of Podence, Jota might just find himself in an intense battle for a starting berth.

It remains to be seen whether he can survive it or not.
