Wolves should recall striker Rafa Mir from his loan spell at UD Las Palmas to replace the struggling Leo Bonatini.

Bonatini's bad run

Brazilian Bonatini was a key component in the Wolves side that won promotion to the Premier League last season, scoring 12 goals and assisting a further six in 43 appearances for the Midlands club. However, due to the impressive contributions of Mexican Raul Jimenez, the 6-foot striker's minutes in gold and black have been limited this season.

Jimenez has had a direct hand in 56% of the Molineux outfit's goals, scoring two and assisting three in eight starts. Nuno Espirito Santo's reluctance to change his starting lineup means that Bonatini's five  appearances have all been off the bench, but he has still failed to score in the 95 minutes he has had in total.

The Premier League calculates that he has missed two big chances and only one of his eight shots on goal have been on target, giving the former Al-Hilal hitman an unwanted 13% shot accuracy. The 24-year-old looks a bit out of his depth in the top flight, but there's no need for Santo to dip into the market in January, as they already have a viable option on their books.

Wolves should recall Rafa

Rafa Mir was loaned out to Spanish outfit UD Las Palmas in the summer to ensure he got some minutes under his belt and he's made them count so far, scoring two goals in seven appearances in his home country with Manolo Jimenez deploying him as a winger.

But it's the 21-year-old's exploits for Spain U21s that have been most impressive having scored five goals in four appearances for the development side, the most recent being a brace against Iceland in a 7-2 win on Wednesday. Santo will have been keeping an eye on his performances and although they may not have been at the highest level, the gamble of recalling him from his loan has to be worth it for the Black Country side, increasing their strength in depth to help cement a top-half finish.
