According to a report from Italian outlet Il Messaggero, Wolves are close to signing Lazio defender Wallace on loan.

What's the word?

Wolves have been particularly slow in the transfer market this summer and they've just been dealt a huge blow in the fact that Edson Alvarez is set to join Juventus, rather than coming to the Premier League. They were initially reported as favourites according to Record, via Sport Witness.

With that in mind, the Midlands club are left facing the possibility of going into their Europa League qualifiers with no new arrivals after losing both Helder Costa and Ivan Cavaleiro to Leeds and Fulham respectively.

However, there looks as though there could finally be something in the water in regards to an incoming.

Il Messaggero claims that they are close to adding the Brazilian defender Wallace to their ranks on loan, with an option to buy included.

The 24-year-old is a tall centre-back, standing at 6 foot 3 and played 16 times in Serie A last term.

Wolves can repeat their previous policy

Wolves aren't afraid to spend when necessary and the fact they coughed up as much as £30m for Raul Jimenez is enough evidence.

However, they are particularly shrewd when it comes to specific deals and the transfer for Wallace, if it goes through, will be another clear sign of the approach they've taken in recent years.

In 2017/18, they brought in numerous players on loan who would then go on to become permanent parts of the furniture.

Willy Boly, Leo Bonatini, Diogo Jota and Ruben Vinagre all came through the doors on temporary deals initially whilst the Midlands outfit then did comparable business last term.

Jonny was brought in on loan from Atletico Madrid before signing permanently in January for £15m whilst Leander Dendoncker completed a similar switch.

Having arrived from Anderlecht, the terms of his loan were then made permanent this summer. Of course, Jimenez was another who first arrived temporarily.

It appears as though Wolves prefer to take a glance at a player before deciding to sign them permanently and in a market where prices are so inflated, this is a cunning tactic.

By agreeing to a similar deal with Wallace, they could strike gold with their policy once again.
