Wolves’ Europa League Group K campaign got off to the worst possible start as they were defeated 1-0 by Braga at Molineux on Thursday evening.
It is now a third straight defeat for Nuno Santo and his side after successive Premier League losses to Everton and Chelsea in the weeks leading up to this tie.
The visitors had rarely threatened in the match, recording just one shot on target before they took the lead in the 71st minute.
Braga pounced on Ryan Bennett’s blunder as the returning centre-back handed the ball straight to Wenderson Galeno.
The winger then mounted a charge at goal before cutting it across to the edge of the box for Ricardo Horta to slam home the winner.

Wolves tried to salvage a point with a late onslaught, but it was to no avail, so their first game in the main stage of a European competition since 1980 ended in a miserable defeat.
Bennett, who was surprisingly dropped for their game against Chelsea, was brought back into the lineup after they leaked five against Frank Lampard’s side, but his error has quite possibly cost them a result here.
Several fans took to social media to slam the 29-year-old following his performance.
One pleaded for the defender to get out of Wolves while another brandished him ‘too slow’ and ‘too sloppy.’
A further member of the Molineux crowd believed the club should have spent big in the summer on improving their defensive ranks.
Here’s the best of the reaction:
Get out of my club Ryan Bennett

Dendoncker was easily the worst player on the pitch but bennett man, his positioning all game was shocking and yet people call that out on Jesus and say Bennett doesn’t have issues with the positioning. wow.

Serious question: who is still defending Bennett after that?

I’d rather smash my head against a wall than watch Bennett play football

Too slow, too sloppy, too complacent. Bennett hasn't got a forward pass in him. #wwfc

Still not quite at our best but still created enough to win, another day Cutrone bags a hatrick. That pass from Bennett is the reason Nuno wants him replaced should have spent big in the summer on a quality defender. #wwfc

Ryan Bennett needs to do better for me. You can’t lose the ball in the middle of the park from a simple 10 yard pass when the back three are pushed up to the half way line to press. Apart from the long throw, he played the majority of passes backwards today #WWFC

Ryan Bennett is a terrible footballer, pass it on
