Wolverhampton Wanderers were knocked out of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening after defeat at the hands of their local rivals.
Nuno Santo named 11 changes to the side that drew with Newcastle United at the weekend with him primarily opting for a youthful-looking squad barring the likes of Patrick Cutrone, Ryan Bennett, and John Ruddy.
Aston Villa came out on top with a 2-1 victory thanks to goals from Anwar El Ghazi and Ahmed Elmohamady while it was the Italian striker who got on the scoresheet for the visitors.
Many supporters at Molineux firmly believe their experienced goalkeeper was at fault for both strikes as he was making just his third appearance of the season.
One fan blasted the 33-year-old saying he needs to retire and start his gardening career, which echoed the thoughts of another, who believed Ruddy had ‘no future’ at Wolves.
‘Shambolic’ and ‘lacklustre’ were just two of the other words used to describe his performance at Villa Park.
A further member of the old gold faithful even claimed that the shot-stopper had let the young members of the starting XI down with his mistakes.
Here’s the best of the reaction:
The kids did themselves proud. Ruddy let them down in my opinion with a lacklustre performance but it is probably the least important competition this season for us. Going out is a blessing #wwfc

Ruddy barely played last year and still made more errors than Patricio who played almost all of the league fixtures, says it all 😂😂 #wwfc

Oi #wwfc fans! Remember when I criticised John Ruddy after the FA Cup semi-final and you all had a go at me?
Well look at what just happened there. Load of kids on the field and it's him costing us the match.

Get Ruddy out of my club jesus.

Ruddy's last season with us for sure. He's becoming too slow to get down and is trying to make saves with his legs when he shouldn't.
Sanderson and Jordao did themselves proud, both should be decent options as we go on (Dion as RCH though) #wwfc

Hell is just watching John Ruddy flap the ball into his own net for eternity #wwfc

Would have take that to pens if Ruddy could do the basics. On to Arsenal with a fully rested squad l. #wwfc
