Wolves forward Ivan Cavaleiro returned from a back injury to make his mark on the Premier League on Saturday, scoring with his first ever touch in England’s top division to open the scoring against Southampton.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side would go on to win the game 2-0, but it was Cavaleiro’s comeback that had fans excited on Twitter.
The 24-year-old was one of the stand-out performers as Wolves stormed the Championship last season, picking up 99 points on their way to the title and the Premier League.
The Portuguese international winger was named among the substitutes against Southampton, but with 13 minutes of normal time remaining he was sent on by Santo. Just two minutes later, striker Raul Jimenez controlled the ball in the box and set it back for Cavaleiro, who fired past Alex McCarthy in the Saints net to finally break the deadlock.
With Diogo Jota, Helder Costa and Adama Traore all impressing so far this season, Wolves can now add Cavaleiro to the mix of attackers that opposing teams will have to do their homework on. Check out some of the best reactions to his return below.
Personally think Cavaleiro has come in under the radar this season. Not heard pundits mention him being out injured, it's as if they haven't recognised him as a regular first teamer last season. Came off the bench yesterday and completely changed the game #wwfc

Good Morning Wolves fans. What a result it finally turned out to be against Southampton yesterday. It was great to see Cavaleiro and Jonny get both of the goals. Molineux was certainly buzzing. #WWFC #WOLSOU

Cavaleiro is my kind of player, he can be surrounded and still create something out of nothing, a gem of a footballer… #wwfc

An odd game but a great result.
Wolves dominated the opening quarter before S'ton upped their game.
Did well to see out their prolonged periods of possession to get the win.

Cavaleiro has a record of a goal every 21 minutes in the Premier League. #wwfc

Wolves not at their best today but still got the win which is all that matters, Cavaleiro made all the difference when he came on and Traore’s pace is a game changer when he switches it on. Southampton on top for large periods but Wolves’ defence is so composed! Buzzing #wwfc

Saying that, sign of a good team that can play that badly, and still find some quality, win the game and keep a clean sheet. We are turning Molineux into a fortress. Cavaleiro was the game changer, great to see him back and he was on fire! #WOLSOU #wwfc #wolvesaywe
