Matt Doherty may have been struggling for Wolves this term but he saved one of his most confident attacking displays of the season for his country.

The right-back popped up with a headed goal for the Republic of Ireland on Monday evening as he gave his side some late hope of qualifying for Euro 2020.

However, their automatic chances were quashed as they drew 1-1 with Denmark.

Doherty made a costly error for the visitor's goal as he allowed Martin Braithwaite to ghost in behind him and find the back of the net.

The praise Doherty received afterwards was therefore rather surprising, with comments such as man of the match and star of the show perhaps unwarranted given his error cost Ireland the win.

Seeing him bag his first goal for his country delighted Wolves supporters, though, as they rallied behind the 27-year-old.

One supporter suggested the defender gave it his all while a further individual said he was the most talented on the pitch.

Doherty has struggled with injuries this term and after finding himself involved in nine strikes last season, has only contributed to one in 2019/20.

Here's the best of the reaction.
