Wolves fans have hit back at claims by Preston gaffer Alex Neil that Wanderers’ players are ‘soft foreigners’.
Playoff-chasing Preston drew 1-1 with the league leaders at Deepdale on Saturday, but the Lancashire club were a goal ahead before their midfielder John Welsh was sent off for a second bookable offence and Wolves’ Costa brought the visitors level.
Neil thought that both yellow cards were harsh on his player.
He said: “I thought the two bookings were soft to be honest. They’ve got a lot of soft foreign players haven’t they?
“I think a lot of them go down and look as if they’re really hurt and makes the referee think the challenge is worse than it actually is.”
Wolves fans refused to take Neil’s remarks lying down, though. Here are a few of their responses to the Preston boss’ remarks…
Find these comments pretty unnecessary. Sure Wolves can roll around a bit but not excessively. And if we're talking about bending the rules how about Preston's incessant time wasting for the last 30 mins? Also the red card was completely justified. https://t.co/CRILZXzXxU

One fan even seemed to make reference to Neil’s own disciplinary record. Neil has been sent off for a second bookable offence three times in his SPL career, which is tied for second most in league history according to Transfrmarket:
Seen the red card incident from y'day and I don't see how the ref can give anything other than a second yellow. Blatant tug on Cav who was racing clear into #pnefc half. Cynical and Welsh right to apologise to their fans. #wwfc. Preston def a team in the image of their manager.

Two soft bookings for the red card?🙈 They was two of the most obvious yellow cards you will see in the game! Talk about bitter! Used to like Alex Neil but he’s really let himself down here #wwfc #pnefc https://t.co/SySHDsCwt1
