French beIN SPORTS journalist John Ferreira has announced on Twitter that Inter Milan midfielder Joao Mario is close to joining newly promoted Wolves.
Mario, who spent the second half of last season on loan with West Ham, signed for Inter for £36m in the summer of 2016 but has failed to impress at the San Siro, despite playing 46 times for the Italian side.
The 25-year-old also played in each of Portugal’s games at the World Cup this summer until they were knocked out by Uruguay in the round of 16.
Mario would be the fourth Portuguese signing that compatriot and manager Nuno Espirito Santo has made this summer alone, as he is helped by super agent Jorge Mendes.
Inter’s Porto-born man can play in any position across the midfield and could be the perfect partner for central-midfielder Ruben Neves, if he can find the form he displayed at the London Stadium last season.

Be very happy with him signing. Not the greatest euros but very good for West ham

Joao Mario would be a fantastic signing for wolves, played at the top level for Portugal and also has Premier League experience with the hammers #WWFC
