Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo has been busy building a squad for the Premier League this summer.
So far, Wolves have brought in five players, including the bargain signing of Portugal’s number one Rui Patricio from the troubled Sporting Lisbon on a free transfer.
It hasn’t all been plain sailing for the West Midlands side though. Santo recently lost out to Juventus with an ambitious attempt to sign right-back Joao Cancelo from Valencia.
With three goals in six international caps, Cancelo was perhaps a surprise omission from Portugal’s World Cup squad this summer. However, the marauding full-back clearly impressed enough while on loan at Inter Milan last season for Juve to splash £35.5m on the 24-year-old.
A product of the successful Benfica academy, Cancelo is represented by super agent Jorge Mendes. Mendes also represents Santo and a number of players that Wolves have signed in the last two years, with the club claiming that the 52-year-old plays an advisory role for the owners.
Despite this, Cancelo chose Turin over Wolverhampton for his next move. Check out some of the best reactions from Wolves fans on Twitter to his decision…
Well if you’re gonna lose out, may aswell be one of the best 🤷🏻♂️
Shows our ambition, going to be hard to attract players of that Calibre, will take time

So what have I missed today then? Get home to find Germany are out of the world cup (laughs) our new training kit is red (red? really?) and Joao Cancelo has finally joined Juve (so we can stop dreaming about him in a Wolves shirt now 😔) #wwfc #Wolves
