The transfer window may have slammed shut on Friday evening, but that hasn't stopped Wolves doing business of a different nature after the club confirmed a key departure.

Sporting director Kevin Thelwell is set to leave the west Midlands outfit later this month to take up the role of head of sport at New York Red Bulls.

It ends an 11-year relationship with the old gold after progressing from academy manager, to head of football development and recruitment, and then finally becoming sporting director in 2016.

As a result of the news, fans have been reacting on social media. Here's what has been said...

Some supporters couldn't contain their excitement as the latest news was described as "unbelievable" and "fantastic" whilst one man went as far as suggesting that an upgrade was inbound.

Others, however, were less vocal about the positives surrounding Thelwell's imminent exit with another member of the Molineux faithful offering stark words of warning...

'Be careful what you wish for' is an adage saying but one that could ring true in this case, depending on how Wolves cope with this loss whilst the role that Thelwell played was described as "underappreciated" by one supporter.

There was also consideration for several other key figures amongst the club such as chairman Jeff Shi, manager Nuno Santo and super-agent Jorge Mendes...

One fan put his trust in Shi to resolve the fallout from this decision, although some believed there were ulterior motives at play here as another member of the Wolves fanbase questioned if there was something unknown happening behind closed doors, calling it "ruthless."

Who on earth is that?!?! Can you name all of these obscure January signings?

It remains to be seen who will replace Thelwell, if anyone will at all, as you'd imagine Shi will take the reigns at least for the time being.

And in other news, Wolves boss Nuno Santo provides key injury update over Adama Traore...
