The transfer window may have slammed shut on Friday evening, but that hasn’t stopped Wolves doing business of a different nature after the club confirmed a key departure.
Sporting director Kevin Thelwell is set to leave the west Midlands outfit later this month to take up the role of head of sport at New York Red Bulls.
It ends an 11-year relationship with the old gold after progressing from academy manager, to head of football development and recruitment, and then finally becoming sporting director in 2016.
As a result of the news, fans have been reacting on social media. Here’s what has been said…
You love to see it

This is one of the moments in life to cherish and remember forever. I’ll stand this up next to the day Moxey left in my top 13,240 memories of all time.
Will also make me a kinder, more balanced, member of the Twitter community.

Because he’s the last one of the Toxic Trio (Morgan & Moxey being the other two) to leave the club. Any transfers that he’s had a hand in have generally been unsuccessful when he manages to do anything at all.

Can’t believe about Thelwell. Unbelievable scenes. Uncle Jorge and aunty Jeff taking us to the next level.

Upgrade incoming 👏👏👏
— StoneWolf (@Stonewolf68) February 3, 2020
Some supporters couldn’t contain their excitement as the latest news was described as “unbelievable” and “fantastic” whilst one man went as far as suggesting that an upgrade was inbound.
Others, however, were less vocal about the positives surrounding Thelwell’s imminent exit with another member of the Molineux faithful offering stark words of warning…
Reading some of the comments to this is disappointing. Look at the guys progression through the club not something a mug would do. Be careful what you wish for!

All the best to him and thanks for a great, yet vastly underappreciated job.
— Carsten Fog Hansen (@cfoghansen) February 3, 2020
I feel more upset about this than I did the day Moxey left.

‘Be careful what you wish for’ is an adage saying but one that could ring true in this case, depending on how Wolves cope with this loss whilst the role that Thelwell played was described as “underappreciated” by one supporter.
There was also consideration for several other key figures amongst the club such as chairman Jeff Shi, manager Nuno Santo and super-agent Jorge Mendes…
Nuno and Jeff obviously wanted more. Wolves won’t be messing about in the summer. https://t.co/Agw4zMcbz0

Yet again something happening behind close doors. Fosum not airing there dirty washing.
If your not good enough from players to staff looks like you will be moved on.
Ruthless business WOLVES mean business.

In Jeff we trust
— Adama Is Slow (@SlowAdama) February 3, 2020
That’ll be zero non-mendes signings going forward then 🙄🙄

No need for a sporting director when Uncle Jorge controls the recruitment policy… https://t.co/K7KLEp17XY

One fan put his trust in Shi to resolve the fallout from this decision, although some believed there were ulterior motives at play here as another member of the Wolves fanbase questioned if there was something unknown happening behind closed doors, calling it “ruthless.”
It remains to be seen who will replace Thelwell, if anyone will at all, as you’d imagine Shi will take the reigns at least for the time being.
And in other news, Wolves boss Nuno Santo provides key injury update over Adama Traore…
