According to Sky Sports, Wolverhampton Wanderers are close to making their first addition of the January transfer window with the club reportedly in talks to sign striker Leonardo Campana from Ecuadorian outfit Barcelona SC.

What's the word?

The source claims that the 19-year-old will link up with the club's youth team and the move will be made easier by the fact that he holds a Spanish passport despite holding four caps for his national team Ecuador.

At the start of the year, Campana impressed at the South America U20 Championship where he top-scored with six goals in nine games as his nation were crowned champions.

In the summer, the striker was linked with a move across Europe to the Serie A with Napoli and both Milan clubs supposedly interested in clinching his signature.

Eye on the future?

Even though it is believed that the youngster would initially play in the U23 setup, this move could actually be viewed with a possible look at the rest of the season.

There are rising doubts over the future of Patrick Cutrone after reports mooted him with a potential January exit (Sky Sports Italia via Daily Mail) following a lack of game time at Molineux - he has played just 291 minutes in the Premier League.

If Campana were to join and Cutrone were to indeed depart, then his role could drastically be increased rather quickly. Even if the 22-year-old remains, it is clear to see that Raul Jimenez has too much weight on his shoulders.

The Ecuadorian striker has been described as a mix between Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thierry Henry by his agent, who also said: "He is tall, strong, technically very good and can play with both feet. He is a complete and very clever player."
