According to a report from French outlet L'Equipe, Wolves are interested in signing Monaco youngster Benoit Badiashile.

What's the word?

Wolves have entered this transfer window not needing a huge amount of work to do. They used just 21 players in the Premier League last term but it's been revealed that Nuno Santo has desires to keep his side thin.

That being said, they are targeting new arrivals in defence, midfield and in attack.

With that in mind, a potential signing could well be 18-year-old centre-back Badiashile, a player who enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in Ligue 1 last term, featuring 20 times.

That's per L'Equipe who claim both Wolves and Manchester United are interested in adding him to their respective squads.

Shi comments would be in evidence

In an interview published in a book by Express & Star that was then quoted on their website last month, Jeff Shi outlined what it would take to bridge the gap to the top six teams in the league.

He said: "You have to invest. You have to make the recruitment right and have a good academy, to produce top young players."

Therefore, this signing could meet two of those requirements straight away.

L'Equipe is reporting that Wolves could land the young French defender for as much as £35m which demonstrates the Midlands club are clearly looking to invest.

However, considering Badiashile is also 18, it's further evidence of Shi's desire for the club to produce top young talent.

If they could beat Man United to his signature, it would be a huge statement of intent and would show just how far Wolves have come in the year since they've been in the Premier League.

Yet, it would also be a strong show of faith that this is a club where young players can develop.

Wolves have already furthered the careers of Ruben Neves and Diogo Jota for example. The latter became one of the most exciting players in the division last term, scoring nine and assisting five in a free-flowing side. Neves, meanwhile, netted four times having made the step up from the Championship seamlessly.

Badiashile certainly fits the profile of who the club are looking to add to their squad this summer and would certainly give extra weight to Shi's comments from June.
