The search for a new Arsenal manager goes on.

Since Unai Emery was relieved of his duties, Freddie Ljungberg has stepped into the hot-seat on a temporary basis, but it has not worked out too well for the former Sweden international. The first game he oversaw was the Gunners' 2-2 draw with Norwich City at Carrow Road, whilst the Emirates outfit then lost 2-1 at home against Brighton.

As such, it seems unlikely that the 42-year-old will get the job permanently. The names linked with the job have been numerous, and it has been said that Nuno Espirito Santo was amongst their top targets. Whilst slightly more recent reports have indicated they have cooled their interest, things can change very quickly, and it is not beyond the realms of possibility that the north London club would make a more concrete move for the Portuguese manager.

That is because he has done a fantastic job at the helm so far in the Midlands. He was appointed Wolves manager in 2017, and he immediately took them up to the Premier League. Last year, they then finished seventh in the top flight and also reached the F.A Cup semi-finals. Now, after having qualified for the Europa League, they have already secured their place in the next round of that competition, and they are currently sixth in the table domestically.

He has done a wonderful job, and it makes sense that a club such as Arsenal would eye him. But why would he leave Wolves? This season, at least, his team are far outperforming the Gunners - they are currently seven points better off, although Arsenal do have a game in hand - whilst their Europa League run has not yet ended. Not only that, he arguably has more funds at his current club. Since his arrival, Wolves have a net spend of £185.76m, compared to Arsenal's £149.46m.

Arsenal look to be in disarray at the moment, whilst Wolves are on the up. Although it makes sense that he would one day move onto a bigger club, right now it is hard to argue that Arsenal are in that position.

His departure would undermine everything he has achieved so far. If he could be prised away be a side currently in 11th place, what would that say about Wolves? It would only limit their ability to challenge in the future, and would show that they are nothing more than a stepping stone.

Hopefully, the rumours that Arsenal are looking elsewhere prove to be true.

In other news, more than one person is to blame for the poor form of this Wolves forward.
