As reported by The Sun, Wolverhampton Wanderers are interested in signing Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes this summer.

What's the story?

After their promotion to the top-flight, Wolves are on the hunt for talent that can help them stay clear of a relegation dogfight next season. With Nuno Santo in charge and significant resources available to them, there's hope from supporters that they can solidify their status as a Premier League outfit over the next few years.

One player on their radar is Barcelona man Andre Gomes.

That's according to The Sun, who report that Wolves and Tottenham Hotspur are both interested in signing him in the months ahead, with Barcelona putting him up for sale, two years after joining from Valencia in a £31m deal.

Is he the kind of player that the Premier League new boys should be targeting over the next couple of months?

Exciting, but effective enough?

There's little doubt that Wolves fans would be excited about signing a player who makes first team appearances for Barcelona, but there could be danger in putting so much money and faith into Andre Gomes.

He is clearly talented and has excellent technical ability, but in his two seasons at Barcelona he's failed to make much of an impact at all and when he has had opportunities, he's hardly grabbed them

Does he have the quality to shine on a week to week basis in the English Premier League? The jury is out, and Wolves would be better off looking at talent who have a recent proven track record of performing specialised roles that can give them an edge next season.
