Sky Sports have reported that Manchester City man Oleksandr Zinchenko is expected to leave the Premier League champions this summer and Wolves have made a £16m bid.

What's the story?

Ahead of their return to the top-flight, Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo has made seven signings already in the summer window and looks set to make it eight with a loan move for Inter Milan midfielder Joao Mario close to completion.

Another player that Santo seems keen to bring in is 21-year-old Zinchenko from City. The Ukrainian youngster featured eight times for Pep Guardiola's title winning side last season, enough to secure him a Premier League winners medal.

Originally a left winger, Zinchenko was deployed at left-back by the Spanish boss and also played centre-midfield during a loan spell at PSV Eindhoven during the 2016/17 season. After making his debut at just 18, the youngster has racked up 17 caps for his national side.

Other options

Despite Zinchenko's impressive stats, his signing may not excite Wolves fans quite as much as some other potential options might do. If Santo is looking for a versatile midfielder who can also play wing-back, he should look no further than Arsenal and Nigeria star Alex Iwobi, who has 18 assists in 98 Gunners appearances according to Transfermarkt.

The 22-year-old has been at Arsenal for his whole career and should look for a move away, either on loan or on a permanent deal, this season in order to ensure he gets the game time to develop his talent. This talent is clear to see but Arsenal may not be the best place for him right now - in international football Iwobi has five goals in 22 caps for the Super Eagles.

Iwobi would fit perfectly in to Santo's side, either as a replacement for Matt Doherty or Barry Douglas in either wing-back spot or in any of the front three positions. He is also a player who, perhaps unlike Zinchenko, would get Wolves fans off their seats and would be a perfect signing this summer.
