Wolves are quickly running out of time to make additions this month, and one of their recent targets has given them a reminder on why they shouldn't end their pursuit just yet.

The west Midlanders were reportedly keen admirers of Birmingham City teenager Jude Bellingham after The Sun's Alan Nixon claimed that they were 'desperate' to sign him a few weeks ago.

However, his latest update suggests that the club have pulled out of the race to sign him as Manchester United are set to offer £15m for his services.

But this may not be a wise decision following the 16-year-old's performance this weekend.

While Wolves were mounting an impressive comeback down in Southampton, Bellingham was pulling the strings in the heart of the midfield back in the Midlands.

The young prodigy scored their opening goal in the fourth minute against Cardiff City when he was gifted enough time and space to slot home a composed finish, making it two in three matches.

Per SofaScore, he also recorded two tackles, one clearance and one successful dribble, which suggests he was doing his part defensively whilst also trying to influence the game in the attack - and that's reinforced by him missing a big chance, so he could have easily had a brace to his name.

To be putting in this level of performance in the second tier of English football at just 16 is no mean feat and the very fact that he has started 19 of his 25 games this campaign shows he's got enough talent to keep his place.

Wolves do not have a dying need for a central midfielder unless Willy Boly's comeback from injury suffers a setback, meaning Leander Dendoncker would have to continue playing there, but this would a valuable squad depth move, one that can benefit their long-term future too.

The west Midlanders' current success story is Morgan Gibbs-White, yet his return is nothing to shout home about - scoring just once in 65 appearances.

Maybe Wolves boss Nuno Santo needs to rethink this one, especially after Bellingham's latest display. £15m in today's market for a homegrown English talent cannot be bad business at all.
