According to The Mirror, Wolverhampton Wanderers are leading the race to sign £30m-rated FC Porto striker Moussa Marega, but the signs are that he needs to make a big improvement if he wants to translate his form for the Portuguese club and bring it to the Premier League.

What's the word, then?

The Mirror report that Wolves manager Nuno Santo has made the centre-forward, who has a £30m release clause in his contract, a priority buy for the west Midlands outfit this summer.

The report says that the Portuguese boss wants to reinforce his frontline before the 2019/20 campaign so Wanderers can have a tilt at finishing in the top six next season following their seventh-place finish this term.

Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota were impressive in attack for Wolves as they secured Europa League football, but there is little quality competition or back-up behind them.

Improvement needed

Marega is clearly talented and has shown that he can score on a regular basis for Porto with 45 goals in 99 appearances in all competitions for the Liga NOS runners-up.

Are Watford the most likely club to break the top 7 next season? The fans in the video below certainly agree the 'W' part in the statement is correct...

However, his appearance against Liverpool at Anfield in the Champions League summed the Mali international up in a way.

He caused the likes of Virgil van Dijk plenty of issues with his strength and power on Merseyside, but his finishing let him down on the night as the visitors were beaten 2-0.

According to WhoScored, of his 117 shots in the Portuguese top flight and the Champions League in 2018/19, 43 of those were off target.

The 28-year-old would need to be far more accurate than that if he wants to be a success in the Premier League, and the jury is firmly out on whether he would be a good addition for £30m.
