According to an exclusive report by TEAMtalk, Wolverhampton Wanderers are one of three Premier League clubs interested in signing Sporting Lisbon midfielder Rodrigo Battaglia, rated at £7.2m by Transfermarkt, with the 26-year-old keen to secure a move to England.

What's the word, then?

Well, TEAMtalk says that Wolves, along with fellow newly-promoted side Fulham and Southampton, are keen on the Argentine, who wants out at the Portuguese giants just a year after joining them.

The midfield enforcer could become the latest player to request to terminate his contract after players were attacked by some supporters that broke into the training ground last month, which came after public criticism from president Bruno de Carvalho following some poor team displays that saw them miss out on Champions League qualification.

If Battaglia did arrive at Molineux he would be competing with the likes of Ruben Neves and Romain Saiss for a spot in the starting XI in the centre of the park.

How did Battaglia do during the 2017/18 campaign?

While it wasn't a great season for Sporting, it wasn't a bad one for the 26-year-old from a personal point of view in what was his debut season for them.

The Argentine made 57 appearances in all competitions – scoring three goals and three assists – while he showed the quality that he has as a defensive midfielder when he had Juventus attacker Paulo Dybala in his pocket during the two sides' 1-1 Champions League draw in October 2017.

According to WhoScored.com, he successfully completed 24 of the 39 dribbles he attempted in 45 outings in Liga NOS and in European competition, while he showed his strength in the air by winning 83 aerial duels.

Would he be a good Wolves signing?

He certainly would be.

The 26-year-old showed last season for Sporting that he is able to play and perform at the highest level, and he looks to have all of the attributes needed to be a success in the Premier League, too.

The fact that he can play as either a central or defensive midfielder shows the versatility that he would bring to the newly-promoted club, and his quality on the ball could be a useful weapon in a division where they could find themselves under the cosh more often than not.
