Wolverhampton Wanderers wide man Adama Traore may have missed his one golden opportunity to cement his name amongst the Spanish national team, but it's through no fault of his own with journalist and author Guillem Balague calling his injury a 'real shame.'

What's he said?

Last week, there was plenty of confusion over what country Traore had pledged his allegiance to as reports had claimed that the 23-year-old elected for the Africa nation over Spain.

But that soon changed when the 2010 World Cup winners called the winger up to their Euro 2020 qualifying squad to replace the injured Rodrigo Moreno.

However, Traore picked up a knock in Wolves' last match, a 2-1 win over local rivals Aston Villa at Molineux, meaning he had to withdraw, forcing him to wait longer for his national team debut.

Spanish football journalist Balague took to Twitter to talk about the unfortunate circumstances, he said:

Opportunity missed

Spain are a national team that are rich in history - three European Championships and one World Cup - meaning they have always produced top-tier talent over the years.

Such achievements make it hard for players like Traore to fully break into the setup and embed their name amongst international folklore, so when an opportunity like this comes about, it simply cannot be missed.

But due to circumstances out of his control, the Wolves ace is now unable to take such chances.

This current international break is the last of the calendar year with no more games expected until March when those that have qualified for next summer's Championships will embark on a series of friendlies to warm up in preparation.

Traore is going to have to keep performing at his current rate to now be considered for those matches -  a tough task bearing in mind he only got into this squad originally through another player's absence.

At least for now, he is on manager Robert Moreno's mind, the fact that they were together at Barcelona at the same time should help his cause somewhat.
