Arsenal fans have made no secret with their frustrations in manager Arsene Wenger and the latest piece of news has raised eyebrows, with the Gunners boss confirming a previous approach from a Premier League rival.

Former Manchester United chairman Martin Edwards stated in a new book that Wenger was the club's preference to replace Sir Alex Ferguson in 2001, with the Scottish boss having given his first suggestion that he will retire.

Arsene Wenger has since confirmed the approach from the Red Devils but stated he remained loyal to the Gunners due to their values, going on to win the double in the 2001/02 season and winning the Premier League in 2003/04 without losing a single game.

Since then though Arsenal have won four FA Cups, whilst Sir Alex Ferguson remained at Old Trafford and won six further league titles as well as another Champions League crown- cementing himself in legendary status.

Arsenal fans have reacted to the news in typical fashion, stating that Wenger wouldn't still be in charge of the club had he endured the same issues at Manchester United that he has with Arsenal.
