Queens Park Rangers look set to appoint Neil Critchley as their new manager and one of the 44-year-old's first acts at Loftus Road should be to get rid of Macauley Bonne.

The 5 foot 11 striker joined the Hoops from Charlton in late 2020 but has struggled immensely during his time at Loftus Road, managing just three goals and one assist in QPR colours.

Bonne had hit just 11 goals in the Championship prior to his move to QPR so was perhaps next expected to be a prolific goalscorer but it seems clear now that he is surplus to requirements with the west London side, and needs to be moved on permanently in the January window.

One month prior to his move to QPR, the Zimbabwe international earned a lot of praise from former Charlton manager Lee Bowyer after an impressive goal in the Carabao Cup. He said:

“On Macauley Bonne, I have to say that is by far the best performance he’s played for us.

“I just told him that, I’ve criticised Macca in the past, but he was outstanding today, outstanding.

“It was a real man’s performance up top on his own. I’m really pleased for him as well."

Last season saw the 27-year-old join Ipswich Town on loan in League One, where he managed a solid return of 12 goals and four assists in 46 appearances, which suggests that the third tier is more his level.

Bonne made a name for himself with Leyton Orient in non-league, hitting 45 goals in just 91 appearances for the O's as they earned promotion back to League Two but sadly it seems as if he is never going to cut it as a regular in the Championship.

So far this campaign, he has been limited to just 57 minutes of Championship action, which suggests that he is currently stealing a wage by sitting on the bench each week, particularly as he's reportedly on £7.9k-per-week - more than Sam Field and Seny Dieng.

While Critchley will no doubt want to assess the whole QPR squad upon his arrival at Loftus Road, it seems clear that he has to get rid of Bonne in January, as he simply isn't good enough if the Hoops want to challenge for promotion.
