Glasgow Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos is giving Steven Gerrard a huge headache, if recent reports are to be believed...

What's the word?

According to The Daily Record, the Rangers boss is finding it difficult to work out why the 6-cap Colombia international is struggling to score goals this season, he said:

“I don’t know what goes on in his head – I wish I did. I think you have to appreciate what Alfredo brings to the team.

“You guys in the media judge him on goals, numbers and records, which is fine. You are doing your job.

“But I judge Alfredo on what he gives the team in and out of possession. Do the players want him in the team?

“Do they feel like they need him? Does he help in different ways? Of course we all want goals and that is a big part of his job."

Morelos has only scored six goals this season so far, despite featuring in over 20 fixtures in all competitions, via Transfermarkt. It's worth bearing in mind that he bagged a brace against Lincoln Red Imps in Europa League qualifying at the start of the season.

Trouble brewing?

The 24-year-old had attracted attention from a number of top European clubs including Ligue 1 side Lille in the summer, whilst reports in recent times revealed that Rangers rejected an approach from an unnamed Serie A side.

Although a move failed to materialise, Gerrard admitted his head had been turned by offers from abroad, and insisted that he will only pick players who want to play for the club.

Since then, Morelos seems to have made amends, but he has failed to find the back of the net in his past five games for the Gers. While the erratic ace may have been able to get away with such a poor run of form in the past, it appears that he has crossed the line one too many times, as he was left out of the starting line-up to face Livingston.

And former Aberdeen striker Noel Whelan branded the misfiring centre-forward as "petulant and childish" for slapping Celtic midfielder Scott Brown across the back of the head in the first Old Firm derby of the season.

Now, granted, this is nothing new. If anything, far from it, as Morelos has been dropped previously for disciplinary problems in the past.

Still, it seems that even Gerrard, who has stuck by his striker so far, is quickly running out of patience, especially when you consider the fact that he last scored against Hibernian FC in the Scottish Premiership, which was before the international break. Either way, fans will be hoping he can get his act together before too long.

Is Morelos still itching for a move away from the Ibrox outfit? Would Ross Wilson have actually been better off selling the Colombian in the summer transfer window? Only time will tell.
