Preston North End midfielder is looking to get out of the club, as he hopes to complete a move to Rangers, according to Football Insider.

The 27-year-old's current contract with the Championship side will come to an end at the 2020/21 season's culmination, which would allow him to walk away from Deepdale for free.

It has been suggested that the Jamaica international has had his head turned by Rangers, which has led him to approach Alex Neill about his desire to head to Scotland.

Discussions about a new Preston deal for the midfielder, who scored 12 league goals and provided seven assists last season, are yet to commence, but Preston are said to be demanding £5m for him.

However, given the 27-year-old's current contract situation, it doesn't seem that the Championship outfit will have the strongest bargaining position.

Johnson has been a key man for Preston since moving from Aston Villa in 2015, starting at least 25 league matches in each of his terms with the club.

Ahead of the Saturday game against Dundee United, Ianis Hagi and Joe Aribo are the only midfielders to have scored in Rangers' first six league games, getting one each.

Therefore, Johnson's prowess in front of goal, as well as his ability to create chances for teammates, are certainly traits that should benefit Steven Gerrard's side if a move is completed.
