Rangers suffer double injury setback pre-Brondby

Rangers head into their latest clash, a tie in Europe, knowing nothing but a win will do for Steven Gerrard’s men as they bid to end a run of topsy-turvy form at Ibrox.

The Gers have won just one of their last three matches and are yet to pick up a single point in their Europa League group.

They tasted defeat to Lyon on matchday one and then lost again to Sparta Prague after being reduced to ten men at the end of September.

Their clash with Brondby on Thursday evening will be another difficult encounter but they know they simply have to pick up all three points if they are to stand a chance of qualifying for the knock-out stages.

However, their task has been made harder by a double injury setback revealed by Gerrard in his pre-match press conference this week.

Do Rangers miss Ryan Kent?

No way!

No way!

Of course!

Of course!

Providing updates on the fitness of Ryan Jack and Ryan Kent, the manager explained:

“Everyone has got through the weekend. Ryan Kent is closer, but this game is a little bit too soon.

“Ryan Jack is progressing and should be back in training around the Aberdeen match.”

Kent has been missing since the middle of September when a hamstring injury ruled him out of the 1-1 draw with Motherwell and subsequent games. As for the latter, he hasn’t played a single minute this season after sustaining a calf problem in 2020/21.

It will take a while for Jack to start building up his fitness but the absence of Kent is sure to be felt hard again.

Who scored a hat-trick on their debut?

The winger has been a menace in Scottish football since signing for Rangers, registering as many as 13 goals and 15 assists last campaign. With that in mind, the manager is likely to be gutted about not having him available.

He is yet to find the net in 2021/22 but has provided four assists in his nine outings to date. His input would have been incredibly valuable this evening with another of the club’s star men, Alfredo Morelos, out of touch.

His output has been rather mediocre in the Premiership this term with just two goals from a total of 29 shots. As a result, having Kent back will have been a huge help in their bid to source their first points of the group stages.

Instead, Gerrard’s men will welcome Brondby to Glasgow a little short on confidence.
