Rangers have been linked with a move for a new central midfielder this week, but it's a move that wouldn't make much sense whatsoever...

What's the word?

According to the Glasgow Times, the Scottish giants are one of the teams interested in Maccabi Tel Aviv midfielder Dan Glazer with multiple Championship sides also keen.

It's claimed that the Ibrox outfit are keen to make a move despite a club representative distancing themselves from the reports.

The 23-year-old is valued at just £1.44m by Transfermarkt and it very much remains to be seen how much he'd command if he were to swap Israel for Scotland before next month.

Another midfielder?

Glazer's performances in the Israeli Premier League have led to him being capped seven times internationally, which could be added to tonight with the midfielder in the squad to face Scotland at Hampden Park.

Primarily a defensive anchorman, he has already featured five times this season and has played the full duration of their two Champions League qualifying wins.

Glazer is described as Maccabi's "influential star" by The Athletic as he displays a 'tough and uncompromising' playing style whilst he recently won the team's Player of the Year award.

However, Gerrard is already blessed with plenty of options in the engineroom. It's a struggle as it is to fit Ryan Jack, Steve Davis and Glen Kamara into the same starting XI and then you've also got Scott Arfield too.

Therefore Wilson would be walking his manager into a selection nightmare with a swoop for Glazer. There are plenty of other positions that need to be bolstered at Ibrox before this one.
