Glasgow Rangers return to action in the Premiership this afternoon as they take on St. Johnstone at Ibrox in the hope of making up some ground on their rivals at the top of the table.

Michael Beale is yet to taste defeat in the dugout since taking over from Dutchman Giovanni van Bronckhorst during the break for the 2022 World Cup and the coach will surely be hoping

Rangers' last match ended in a 1-0 win over today's opponents in the Scottish Cup as Borna Barisic's fine strike was the match-winning, and only, goal of the game.

Last time out in the Premiership, the Light Blues beat Kilmarnock 3-2 away from home and Scott Arfield lined up in the number ten position for Beale.

The veteran midfielder recorded a Sofascore rating of 6.6 as he lost five of his eight individual duels, created one chance, and failed to register a single effort on goal.

Beale now has more options to pick from in that position as Ianis Hagi is set to return to the squad after a year out injured and new signing Todd Cantwell is also in the mix to make his debut.

The head coach has already confirmed that the Romanian international is not fit enough to play 90 minutes and the manager must forget about the talented attacker for this match and, instead, unleash Cantwell from the start in the number ten role.

Whilst the gem did not play for Norwich in recent weeks leading up to the transfer to Ibrox, the 24-year-old played 18 matches in the Championship during the first half of the campaign and, therefore, should not need long to get up to match speed.

In those games for the Canaries, the Englishman averaged a Sofascore rating of 6.93 and created 1.1 chances per match whilst winning 53% of his battles, as per Sofascore.

RangersReview's Patrick Caskie described him as being a mix of a "magician" and a "passer", whilst EDP journalist Dave Freezer once hailed the gem as being "exciting to watch", and that was on full display in the 2020/21 Championship campaign for Norwich.

Cantwell plundered six goals and six assists, whilst creating 1.6 chances per game, in 30 starts in the division for Daniel Farke's side - averaging a Sofascore rating of 7.17.

The gem has the potential to be a difference-maker in the final third, whether that be by scoring for himself or creating a chance for a teammate, and Beale must now unleash the maestro, instead of Arfield or Hagi, to get Ibrox rocking this afternoon.
