Rangers were in action once again this afternoon in the Premiership, and they secured all three points after a tense struggle at Ibrox.

It took the home side 81 minutes to open the scoring through Kemar Roofe, who had only been on the pitch for a few minutes after replacing Alfredo Morelos.

While this goal was enough to secure the three points for Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side against Aberdeen, there was another Rangers player who arguably was more important than the goalscorer.

Having played the entire 90 minutes, James Tavernier had 124 touches of the ball, more than any of his team-mates on the day. He also racked up 64 passes including seven long balls, five crosses and two key passes.

Along with his impressive range of passing, the full-back still showed what a useful defensive unit he is for the Gers by making one clearance, one tackle and two interceptions, also winning 10 duels along the way. This shows just how important he was in helping his team to keep a clean sheet.

Overall, this latest display from the 30-year-old - who is currently picking up £24k-per-week according to Salary Sport - earned him an impressive match rating of 8/10, making him the highest-rated Rangers player on the day according to SofaScore.

Rangers Review also picked up on the £6.3m-rated defender's solid performance by saying that he "won the ball back a fair few times and was reliable in possession," and also that he " started to drive his team up the pitch as the game wore on".

Labelled a "powerhouse" in the past by former Ibrox manager Steven Gerrard, that is exactly what Tavernier has been for his team, not only today but throughout the whole season, with WhoScored ranking him as the club's highest-rated player with a rating of 7.73/10.

If the former Wigan right-back can keep delivering performances like this one and Rangers can keep picking up wins, they will be in with a great chance of retaining the Premiership title, having drawn level on points with Celtic overnight.
