A big piece of early Rangers team news has emerged as Gio van Bronckhorst has provided an update on Ibrox gem Aaron Ramsey.

What's the latest?

The Gers head coach has confirmed, in his pre-match press conference, that the Wales international will not be in his starting XI in the Europa League tonight.

He said: "Ramsey will be in the squad but will not be starting. For us, the most important thing is to have individual programmes for each player to return to full fitness. I'm happy to have Ramsey back in the squad and working hard to get Davis and Hagi back also."

Gutted

This comes as a huge blow to Rangers and is one that will surely leave supporters gutted as it means that they will not be able to see the midfielder in action from the start against Red Star Belgrade.

He has the experience throughout his career to suggest that his availability to be named in the XI would be a major boost to the Gers. The ex-Arsenal man has played over 400 times for Juventus and the Gunners and played in both the Champions League and the Europa League.

Ramsey has produced an impressive 142 direct goal contributions combined for the two European giants, which shows that he has the quality to make a big impact in the final third. The midfielder has proven his ability over an extended period of time and van Bronckhorst may be keen to lean on his experience in big matches, which is why it is important that he returns to fitness as quickly as possible.

He has one assist in one start for Rangers so far, as he set up Filip Helander's header in the Scottish Cup win over Annan Athletic - providing a glimpse at what he can bring to the team when fit.

Supporters will, therefore, be disappointed to read that he is still unable to start a match outside of the SFA Cup - over a month on from his move to Glasgow on loan from Juventus.

His pedigree suggests that he will be a key player for van Bronckhorst but the fans look set to wait a little while longer to see him in full flow and that will be frustrating for the fanbase - particularly if Rangers come out on the wrong side of the result tonight.
