Rangers face Hearts in a top-of-the-table clash in the Premiership on Saturday as first takes on second at Ibrox.

The Jam Tarts are currently second in the table on 18 points, one behind the Gers, who have won six of their eight league matches this season. A win for Steven Gerrard's side would see them move four points clear at the top of the Premiership after nine matches, with third-placed Hibernian on 15 points heading into the weekend.

The Glasgow giants put themselves in this position by beating Hibs 2-1 prior to the international break, with Alfredo Morelos and Kemar Roofe scoring the goals on the day.

The latter scored the equaliser that day after coming off the bench and Gerrard now has a key decision to make heading into this clash with Hearts. The Gers boss must unleash the former Leeds man from the start and ensure that he is in the XI when the team news is read out on Saturday.

Nathan Patterson whipped in a delightful ball to the back post and Roofe positioned himself perfectly to head the ball into the back of the net for the leveller against Hibs, five minutes after coming onto the pitch in place of Glen Kamara. This showed the killer instinct he has in the box and why he must play from the start against Hearts, as he has the quality to be a match-winner for the champions.

Gerrard once hailed the forward as 'clever and bright' as he praised the attacker's talent and mentality. The manager said: “Touch wood he stays fit and if he does then he will be a real handful at this level. He works his socks off, he does everything out of possession that you ask of him, he is clever and bright and he can create and score. He has got the mentality that I really like.”

Roofe has scored three goals in four Premiership starts this term. This is after he found the back of the net 14 times from 18 starts in the league last season for Rangers, which shows that he can score regularly at this level and be a game-changer for Gerrard.

The £26k-per-week beast has proven himself as a reliable goalscorer in Scotland and his latest cameo shows why he deserves to start against Hearts this weekend. Starting him could increase Rangers' chances of winning the game as he would have longer on the pitch to work his magic and find the back of the net, so long as his teammates are able to supply him with chances in front of goal.
