Glasgow Rangers turn their attention away from Premiership and Champions League action tonight as Giovanni van Bronckhorst's men face Dundee FC in the League Cup.

The Light Blues host the Championship outfit at Ibrox as they attempt to progress through to the next round of the cup competition.

The Gers head into the game off the back of a 2-1 win against Motherwell in the Scottish top flight. Malik Tillman and John Lundstram scored the goals to keep the club in touching distance of their rivals at the top of the table, two points behind Celtic.

Antonio Colak led the line for the Glasgow giants in the match but had a rare off-day as he only completed 27% of his attempted passes and lost all 14 of his individual duels.

The Croatian striker has been in phenomenal form since joining Rangers, scoring ten goals in as many Premiership outings so far, but this League Cup outing provides van Bronckhorst with the opportunity to give the forward a rest.

After his disappointing display at the weekend, the Dutch head coach should drop the former PAOK man to the bench and now unleash Colombian marksman Alfredo Morelos from the start.

The 26-year-old, who has not started a single game in the Scottish top-flight this season, should be handed a chance to show that he can get back to his best.

He was dropped from the squad earlier this season for a disciplinary issue and has struggled to find his feet since coming back into the team, with this clash with Dundee having the potential to be a springboard for him to kickstart his campaign.

There is no doubt that the £33k-per-week striker has the quality to be a top player for the Light Blues, as he has proven himself in Scotland over many years.

Speaking anonymously to The Athletic, an ex-Premiership defender hailed the forward's strength, saying: "He is deceptive with his physical attributes, but what I’d say he’s best at is when the ball is played up to him."

Another anonymous player added: “He’s kind of dropping deep now and going out wide. That’s a nightmare for defenders because he’s your player that you’re meant to be man-marking but then you’re dragged out of position and you’ve got midfield runners taking his space."

Since joining Rangers in 2017, Morelos has scored 114 goals and provided 52 assists in 235 matches for the club in all competitions - including 67 strikes in 142 Premiership outings.

He can terrorise opposition defences with his threat in the final third and van Bronckhorst must start him tonight, ahead of Colak, to see if the Colombian can rekindle his fire against the Championship side.
