Rangers are back in action this evening with a Scottish Cup clash against Annan Athletic after securing another victory in the Premiership in midweek.

In terms of which players Giovanni van Bronckhorst could pick to be in his starting XI to take on their League Two opponents, one man who started in the midweek win against Hibernian but we feel should be dropped from the team on this occasion is Scott Arfield.

The 33-year-old joined Rangers back in 2018 on a free transfer from Burnley and has since gone on to make 169 appearances for the Scottish champions across all competitions, racking up 33 goals and 18 assists along the way.

Despite his experience and attacking talents, the veteran's performance in the midweek win over Hibs may not have convinced Van Bronckhorst that he deserves to start this evening.

In his 75 minutes on the pitch before being replaced by Fashion Sakala on Wednesday night, Arfield only made 21 passes, had two shots at goal which were both off target, lost possession 11 times, gave away five fouls and lost seven out of his nine duels (SofaScore).

This display ultimately earned the Canadian, who is currently earning £16k-per-week according to Salary Sport, an underwhelming overall match rating of 6.5/10, making him the joint-lowest rated player to start for Rangers on the night according to SofaScore.

Along with this performance against Hibs, the former Burnley midfielder's other league performances for Rangers in the current campaign have been rather disappointing as well. WhoScored list him as one of the lowest-rated outfield players to have started more than two games for the Gers, with an overall rating of 6.69/10 showing that he has arguably been holding the team back this season.

With that in mind and with Van Bronckhorst claiming in his recent press conference that he will be making changes to his team today from the starting XI he picked in midweek, this could result in the Canadian being dropped from the side on this occasion.
