Glasgow Rangers have been hit with two injury blows ahead of their return to Premiership action at Ibrox against Ross County today...

What's the latest?

Gio van Bronckhorst has confirmed that, after starting against PSV, Glen Kamara will be missing from the match today due to a knee issue.

Young midfielder Alex Lowry has also suffered a setback after a "horrific" challenge on him in a B team encounter earlier this week.

On Friday, the club's official Twitter channel quoted the manager as saying: "Lowry will be some weeks out with injury. Kamara had some problems with his knee and will not be in the squad tomorrow."

Van Bronckhorst should be frustrated

These injuries should leave the Ibrox head coach frustrated for different reasons.

Kamara started in the 1-0 win over PSV to secure qualification for the group stage of the Champions League and put in a solid display. He created two chances, won two of his three aerial battles and made four interceptions - more than any other Rangers player.

The Finland international was a key player for the club last season as he made 46 appearances across the Premiership and Europa League. He chipped in with four goals and five assists in that time whilst being a combative and energetic option in the middle of the park.

Van Bronckhorst clearly trusted him enough to play in such a crucial match in the Netherlands in midweek, and that is why he will now be frustrated by the prospect of the 26-year-old facing a spell on the sidelines due to injury, as him missing matches will be a big blow due to the trust that the manager has in him.

Hopefully the knee issue is not serious and he will be able to return to action sooner rather than later, but whether or not that is with Rangers will depend on what happens between now and the end of the transfer window amid speculation over his future at Ibrox.

Meanwhile, Lowry's injury will frustrate van Bronckhorst because of the progress the youngster has made throughout the year.

The 19-year-old forced his way into the manager's thinking in the second half of 2021/22 and earned four appearances in the Premiership, including three starts. In those matches, he scored one goal and registered one assist whilst creating one 'big chance' and providing five key passes, averaging a SofaScore rating of 7.02.

He also made the bench for the Europa League final and signed a new long-term contract but came into the current campaign with a calf injury that forced him to ease his way back in by playing in the B team.

The gem looked like he was getting back to his best as he scored a hat-trick earlier this week, only to now suffer a major setback after being clattered in the same match.

Van Bronckhorst will duly be frustrated that the young talent will have his development put on hold as he recovers, which is a big blow for his progress as he looks to make the next step as a professional.
