A late injury twist has emerged for Rangers on the Ibrox club's central midfielder Ryan Jack...

What's the latest?

Gio van Bronckhorst has revealed that the former Aberdeen man will not be in contention to feature against Hibernian on Wednesday night.

He told the Daily Record: “Ryan Jack is out after a problem with his ankle, he will be out of the squad for tomorrow. I don't think it is serious, he got a knock during the game.

“The challenge on Ryan Jack caused an issue with his ankle, he is a very tough player and it takes a lot for him to stay down.”

Fuming

Rangers fans will surely be fuming with this news for multiple reasons.

Firstly, it will come as a major blow to van Bronckhorst's side after his performances against Hearts and Celtic. He completed 85% of his passes against the former, whilst making one block, one tackle and two interceptions, showing how reliable he was in possession whilst offering a defensive ballast in midfield.

Against the Hoops, he came on in the second half and put in an excellent showing. As per SofaScore, he hit the crossbar, created two chances, made one tackle and completed 90% of his attempted passes in just 45 minutes on the pitch.

These two displays are why fans will now be fuming that he is set to miss out against Hibernian. He appeared to be finding his feet in the team after a long injury lay off and has now been dealt with another setback, as it remains to be seen how long he will be out for.

Not only will be they be frustrated with the injury itself, but they will also be far from pleased with how it happened. It was a needless challenge from behind that appeared to be overaggressive, with the referee not even awarding a free kick - with the player winning the ball before going through Jack.

It was an avoidable incident and this is what could irritate supporters at Ibrox, particularly given the issues he has had in the past year. The 5-0 win over Hearts was his first start of the campaign and he has immediately suffered a knock that will cause him to miss at least one match.

Hopefully, he is able to quickly recover from the issue to make himself available for the Scottish Cup clash with Annan Athletic at the weekend.
