Michael Beale has certainly rejuvenated Glasgow Rangers since taking over in November from Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

The Ibrox side are undefeated in five matches under the Englishman and came so close to securing their first Old Firm victory since August 2021 on Monday, however, a late goal ensured both teams had to settle for a point.

With the January transfer window now in full swing, Beale will be eyeing a few new players to bolster his team ahead of what appears to be a transitional few months.

The 42-year-old is acting fast and the Light Blues have been linked with a move for Royal Antwerp defender William Pacho and this could lead to the manager ditching a player who just joined Rangers last summer.

Beale can ditch Souttar in Pacho deal

The Ibrox outfit announced Souttar was joining them from Hearts midway through last season on a pre-contract agreement and he officially joined in the summer after some excellent performances for the Edinburgh side.

His history problems were well documented, with the centre-back missing a staggering 146 games across his spells at Hearts and Dundee United and he has played for just 67 minutes this season - the very first league match against Livingston.

Souttar is a solid player and hasn’t had a chance to get going at Ibrox, but Beale may favour some of his own signings and it could mean Souttar doesn’t play a part for the club.

Pacho is just 21 years old and has already played 67 matches in his professional career and he was described as having the “calm of a veteran” by Latin America commentator Sebastian Decker in 2021.

Indeed, this season, Pacho has been in excellent form for Antwerp this season, averaging a 6.99 rating via Sofascore while contributing 2.1 tackles, 2.6 clearances, and 1.6 interceptions per game, showing his defensive acumen at such a young age.

The defender was also part of the Ecuador squad for the World Cup; however, he didn’t get any game time at the tournament as they crashed out at the group stage.

Pacho could be an excellent addition to the Rangers squad, especially for the future and Beale will be exploring the opportunity to sign him this month following his impressive start to the season.
