Glasgow Rangers have underperformed in recent weeks, with their win against Dundee United last Saturday being their first since August 30.

The club were expected to kick on following their impressive Europa League final run and winning the Scottish Cup for the first time in 13 years last season, but they appear to have stagnated slightly - especially in the league.

The Ibrox side currently sits two points behind Celtic in the Premiership table and it will be a closely fought battle between who wins the title this season.

Rangers have particularly suffered in certain positions, with Giovanni van Bronckhorst failing to strengthen adequately in key areas.

Adding a right winger who could have made an impact straight away was vital during the summer. New signing Rabbi Matondo has only started two league matches, while Scott Wright has contributed zero goals and just one assist in 10 fixtures this season.

The Dutchman could do with a former teammate and Dick Advocaat signing in his squad at the present moment in time, as he would surely terrorise defences in Scotland and on the continent…

Kanchelskis would solve Rangers’ woes

Andrei Kanchelskis signed for the Light Blues in the summer of 1998 from Serie A side Fiorentina for a £5.5m fee as Advocaat wanted to wrestle back the title from Celtic and establish Rangers as a European heavyweight in the process.

The winger had a fruitful spell in Glasgow, winning two league titles, two Scottish Cups and a League Cup trophy in his four-year spell, dazzling the Ibrox faithful with his tricks and creativity.

He played 75 times for the club and scored an impressive total of 14 goals while predominately featuring on the right wing under the Dutchman.

The Ukrainian-born player brought plenty of experience to the new look Gers side under Advocaat, winning Premier League titles at Manchester United and he was one of the finest in the continent at that period in time.

There’s no doubt he would shine under Van Bronckhorst in today's Rangers team, with James Tavernier providing plenty of support behind him and a striker such as Antonio Colak waiting in the box for every delivery, Kanchelskis would excel.

Former Manchester United teammate Ben Thornley said that Kanchelskis was a “joy to watch” during his spell at Old Trafford, and with Wright and Matondo failing to lift the mood at Ibrox when things aren’t going well, he could certainly inject some spark into this Rangers team.
