Journalist Joshua Barrie, who appears on Sky Sports, has tipped touted Rangers transfer target Tom Davies to be just what the club needs amid recent transfer links.

What's the word?

As per the Daily Record, the Everton midfielder could be on his way to Ibrox this January with sporting director Ross Wilson and Michael Beale keen on the player – while Norwich City man Todd Cantwell was also linked.

Rangers currently find themselves nine points off the pace when it comes to hunting down top spot in the Scottish Premiership and so they'll likely need to use the window well if they want to really enjoy the second half of the season.

With that in mind, adding a Premier League player or two to their squad could potentially boost the level of the team and Barrie made this point while speaking on The Rangers Review.

He said: "Any transfer has risk, but you look at someone like Tom Davies, who's played his professional career in the Premier League.

"Remember when Everton beat Liverpool 2-0 in lockdown, it was one of the first times they'd beat them in 20 years, he was really good on that day."
While also referring to Cantwell, he added: "Either one of those, I think is what Rangers need. Legs, creativity in the middle of the park, and crucially at an age where they can have a good couple of years and be saleable assets."

Worth it?

Davies has spent his whole career as an Everton player and has played 169 times for the club in all competitions, having come through as an academy player.

However, now aged 24, his career has stagnated a little with manager Frank Lampard trusting him to start just four games in the league up to this stage in the season.

Despite that, Davies has certainly shown glimpses of his quality over the years. For instance, as Barrie mentions, he shone in a Merseyside derby win over Liverpool at Anfield in 2021.

Indeed, as per Sky Sports he put in a 'sublime' performance as no player made more tackles (5) in the game and no Everton player gained possession for their team (8).

With that in mind, it's easy to see why Rangers may well put their faith in Davies this winter.
