Rangers have been linked with Young Boys winger Nicolas Moumi Ngamaleu recently, and if he were to make the move to Ibrox this summer, it would surely be bad news for Jordan Jones' future in Steven Gerrard's squad.

According to TEAMtalk, Rangers are joined by Leeds United, Brighton, Everton and Leicester City in their interest in signing the Cameroon international this summer.

The 26-year-old has produced some superb performances in the Swiss Super League in recent years, contributing 12 goals and three assists in 2018/19, followed by seven goals and 10 assists last season.

Although he has just two goals and five assists to his name in the league this term, he did spend a period out sidelined due to the current viral outbreak, which may well have had an impact on his performances.

The versatile forward, who can play on either wing and even up front, has experience playing in both the Europa League and Champions League qualifying stages, so he should certainly add some quality to Gerrard's squad this summer should he make the move to Ibrox.

His arrival could spell the end for Jones, who has struggled to impress since signing from Kilmarnock in the summer of 2019, with just one goal and two assists to his name in 19 appearances.

The Northern Ireland international was sent on loan to Sunderland in January and whilst he has impressed in Lee Johnson's side at times with three goals and four assists thus far, it seems unlikely that he will be able to re-establish himself in Gerrard's first team again next season.

With Rangers set to feature in the Champions League next term, you could argue that they need to add serious strength in depth and axe some of the players who are no longer deemed good enough. Bringing in Ngamaleu and letting Jones leave on a permanent deal seems like the sort of business that sporting director Ross Wilson should be looking to execute.

To have a Cameroon international who has consistently impressed in Switzerland's dominant club both domestically and in Europe should certainly help to take Gerrard's side to the next level in 2021/22, as it would give the manager serious choice in the wide positions along with the likes of Ryan Kent, Ianis Hagi and Scott Wright.

Therefore, Wilson should definitely be looking to bring Ngamaleu to Ibrox this summer, which unfortunately could prove to be the catalyst for Jones departing on a permanent deal.

In other news... Assombalonga's potential signing could be the final nail in the coffin for one Gerrard favourite at Ibrox.
