Glasgow Rangers once again stumbled in the Scottish Premiership, having to rely on a late James Tavernier penalty to secure a 1-1 draw against St Mirren this afternoon.

The result means Rangers have dropped points in three of their previous five league matches and this has potentially ended any title challenge, with Celtic looking in imperious form.

The first half in Paisley saw plenty of attacking impetus for the Light Blues, with Scott Wright – making his first start in the league since August – looking bright in the opening exchanges.

A breakthrough could not be found, however, and when St Mirren scored shortly after the restart, it was all uphill for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men. Leon King was substituted off with a head knock and this will add further misery to the Dutchman, with the injury crisis at the club getting worse.

James Tavernier scored a penalty in the final few minutes and Rangers head into the break devoid of confidence and enthusiasm. There were only a few players who can hold their heads high after that result, with Borna Barisic being one.

The Croatian left-back was selected for his nation's World Cup squad and certainly boosted his confidence following an excellent performance today.

His SofaScore rating of 7.5 ranked him second in the Rangers' starting XI, behind only Tavernier and Ryan Kent – both 7.7 – as he once again displayed his attacking abilities.

Barisic took 114 touches during the match, linking up well with Kent down the left wing and he delivered 11 crosses into the opposition box, with Wright coming close to scoring from one in the first half.

Former Rangers winger Neil McCann once described the 30-year-old as “like a train” in attack and he certainly proved him right today.

Often criticised for his sloppiness in defence, Barisic also contributed when his team were under attack, winning 80% of his total duels while chipping in with four clearances, two tackles, and one interception, proving that he can be solid defensively.

With Croatia’s first World Cup match just 11 days away, the left-back will head to Qatar in good form and ready to make a difference for his country on the biggest stage of all.
