Rangers have been credited with an interest in Giovanni Reyna recently, and the USA international could be Giovanni van Bronckhorst's own version of Bernardo Silva at Ibrox.

It was reported earlier this month that the Gers could look to sign the 19-year-old on loan this summer after he struggled for a regular spot in Borussia Dortmund's side last season.

There is an obvious connection between Reyna and Rangers. His father Claudio was a legend at Ibrox and played alongside Van Bronckorst, with reports claiming that the Dortmund ace is even named after the current Gers boss.

Therefore, if the teenager were to leave BVB on loan this summer, Rangers would surely be the logical option, and he could be a superb addition at Ibrox.

Having come through Dortmund's academy, Reyna has gone on to make 76 appearances for the first team, in which he has contributed nine goals and 12 assists.

However, last season saw him make just 10 appearances in the Bundesliga, so a loan spell away would perhaps be best for his development.

If he were to join Van Bronckhorst's side, then he could perform a similar role to Manchester City's Bernardo Silva, who is ranked as the most similar player to the USA international according to FBRef.

In his few appearances last season, the wonderkid ranked in the 99th percentile for non-penalty expected goals, expected assists, progressive passes and touches in the penalty area, which emphasises the attacking quality that he could add at Ibrox.

Erling Haaland was full of praise for the teenager in 2020, dubbing him "the American dream", while USA manager Gregg Berhalter has tipped him to become a "fantastic" player.

According to WhoScored, both Reyna and Silva excel at passing, dribbling and playing key passes, so they clearly have very similar styles of play.

Given that the Portugal international has been a hugely influential player for Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium in recent years, Rangers would be foolish to turn down someone who plays in a similar way to the former Monaco man.

Therefore, Van Bronckhorst should do everything that he can to bring Reyna to Ibrox ahead of the upcoming season.
