Rangers have been handed a possible boost ahead of the return to club football this weekend, following an update regarding the fitness of striker, Kemar Roofe.

What's the word?

According to Football Scotland, the 29-year-old could be in line for a return to action on Saturday at Tynecastle, having been absent since sustaining an injury in pre-season.

The report relays how the dynamic forward hinted at his potential availability on social media, with the Jamaica international having last featured in the Europa League final defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt back in May.

The five-cap gem - who arrived in Glasgow on a £4m deal from Anderlecht back in 2020 - had been heavily linked with an exit over the summer, with a handful of Football League clubs having seemingly been eyeing a loan swoop.

Van Bronckhorst should be delighted

Gers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst will likely be pleased that no such exit occurred in the recent window, while the former Feyenoord boss will also seemingly be delighted if he can welcome Roofe back into the fold as Scottish Premiership action resumes with a trip to Hearts following the recent international break.

While he has been plagued by injury throughout his time at Ibrox, the £4.95m-rated ace has proven himself a reliable figure in front of goal for the club to date, having scored 34 goals and provided five assists in just 72 games thus far.

That haul includes a tally of 16 goals from 36 games in all competitions during the 2021/22 campaign, with the former Leeds United man having netted ten goals in just 21 top-flight appearances, with only nine of those outings coming from the start.

With concerns still lingering regarding former talisman Alfredo Morelos, Van Bronckhorst could well be aided by the addition of another attacking weapon, with the club currently heavily reliant on summer addition Antonio Colak to deliver the goods.

The latter man has scored nine goals in just 13 appearances for the Old Firm outfit so far this term, with the club's second-highest scorer currently that of Scott Arfield with just four goals in all competitions, showcasing the need for further firepower in the forward ranks.

The potential return of Roofe would then be a major lift for the Scottish giants ahead of a hectic run of fixtures over the next month or so, with the 5 foot 10 marksman having proven his finishing prowess in recent seasons.
