Rangers: Ross Wilson must bring Vitor Pereira to Ibrox

With Glasgow Rangers sacking Giovanni van Bronckhorst, the Ibrox faithful will be curious as to who Ross Wilson appoints next.

The decision to end the Dutchman’s reign, especially after the side’s recent form, was probably a straightforward one. The pressure seriously mounted following the defeat to St Johnstone at the start of the month and it is perhaps no surprise he has departed.

Wilson will also be under pressure to appoint a manager who has a proven track record of success, and a winning mentality, while also coaching the side to play solid, well-drilled and attacking football.

One candidate immediately stands out from the rest and he is available to start immediately…

Pereira would be a great appointment

The 54-year-old Vitor Pereira has recently left Brazilian club Corinthians after opting against an extension to his contract, meaning he is currently a free agent.

Despite being in charge for less than a year and just 63 matches in total, he was dubbed a “genius” by journalist Pedro Henrique Torre, and with his fondness for attacking football, he could reignite Rangers’ spark.

Over the course of his managerial career, he has managed 508 matches, overseeing his side score a mind-blowing 922 goals, proving that his teams play a free-flowing style of football that is relativity easy on the eye – and this would go down well with the Ibrox faithful, who have been traumatised recently with Van Bronckhorst’s negative style.

The Portuguese manager has also claimed four league titles since 2011 and this winning mentality would also be welcome in Glasgow. He has won titles in three different countries which proves he has the ability to constantly adapt and a move to Scotland shouldn’t faze him.

Can you guess this current Rangers star from his career record?

Mesut Ozil, who played under Pereira at Fenerbahce, described him as “fantastic” due to his success in Portugal and China and given his points per match statistics of 2.26 and 2.02 at Porto and Shanghai SIPG respectively, the former Arsenal player is correct.

A quality manager such as Pereira won’t be a free agent for long, so Wilson must act swiftly to ensure Rangers head into their next league fixture in a positive mood.
